River Shark
By Danielle Hayter-Johnson
A story of falling into darkness – and fighting to find the light
River Shark is a powerful memoir chronicling my journey through deep personal loss, trauma, and the long road to healing. After losing my father at a young age and growing up with an unstable, ailing mother, I turned to self-medication in an attempt to cope. What followed was a series of struggles—relentless and unyielding—that pushed me to my limits.
Yet, like a shark swimming upstream, I kept moving forward.
This is the raw and unfiltered story of how I faced darkness, made painful mistakes, and ultimately found the strength to heal. Through vulnerability and honesty, I share my experiences in the hope of helping others who have endured difficult childhoods or wrestle with crippling self-doubt.
River Shark is not just a story of survival — it’s a testament to the power of self-forgiveness and the possibility of transformation.
Meet the Author
Danielle
Hayter-Johnson
The woman I am today has survived many hardships that nearly pulled me under, threatening to drown me in darkness. At times, the tide pulled hard, and I wasn’t sure I’d make it back to shore. But I fought, clawed my way to the surface, even when I wasn’t sure I’d make it. I learned to breathe in the light. From the little girl who feared the River Shark to the woman who became the shark in her own life, this is my story…and it begins the moment everything fell apart.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING
Real Talk...
I recently shared some of my story…very open and honestly.
My hope is that by telling my story, others can relate and feel supported in their own journey. I address some of my own trauma, darker days, and the victim mentality that kept me stuck for years.
I also share how I survived, began healing, and hope to inspire.
